Deep Winter

Tessa Treadway, Holly Walker, Amy McDermid and I sold calendars at Deep Winter last weekend. Great fun seeing winter friends and watching all the slideshows. Plus a huge congrats to Robin O’neill for winning the whole thing! Bam! We’ve got one of her photos in the calendar too. Buy one to find out which month….

The next day I met up with 8 girlfriends to ski. Yep, that makes 9 ladies shredding Blackcomb as one massive gang. It’s maybe a little much to ski in a group that big but it was super fun. Et voila, that’s what a weekend in Whistler is like in January. Happy turns!

Birthday turns

First run in DOA of the year last week and it was me birthday. Fun times jump turning through the chute and then a rocky walk out at the bottom until it opened up to smooth fast turns in the apron. It was a beautiful day!

RadBoob 2012. Comin’ soooooon!

I’m really excited to be working on a calendar again for 2012. I love being part of a project that brings these inspiring women together (I know… girl power, blah blah blah). This time around we are raising money for a new non-profit started by my good friend Izzy Lynch. Their project is called the Live It! Love It! Foundation and this is  a little summary about what they do:

Live It! Love It! works to make adventure dreams come true by connecting with a variety of organizations and resources to access the equipment, instruction, support team and financial aid necessary to make sure the unique adventure wishes of individuals with physical challenges are made possible.

Stay tuned to their website to follow Izzy and Jeff as they work to put on their very first Adaptive Adventure Camp coming up at the end of August. Their plans are to use the funds from the calendar to put on a women’s specific adaptive adventure camp next summer! Check out this video of Jeff bungie jumping for some inspiration:

I once went to Turkey…

Last spring I ran into Leah Evans in the Creekside grocery store and after a few minutes of catching up, I had suddenly agreed to join her on a ski trip to Turkey in April. I went from buying ginger tea to planning an adventure. Not bad right? I have yet to blog on this trip and wanted to put a few pictures up of those beautiful 2 weeks.

Leah and I left Vancouver and planned to meet the rest of our crew in Istanbul, skier Jacqui Edgerly and photographer Gabe Rogel. With our group intact we flew to Erzerum, picked up our car (and by car I mean 18 passenger van complete with only Turkish speaking driver in a full business suit) and started our drive to Olgunlar. Who knew we’d end up in a deserted little village at the end of the road and the beginning of epic mountains. Check it!

We stayed at the Kaçkar Pansiyon owned by Ismail and his family. They actually opened the lodge especially for us. The village is empty in the winter when farming is done and people move to the city for other jobs. So we literally had the place all to ourselves. The area has beautiful mountains, unpredictable weather and wonderful people. So give yourself time and flexibility when it comes to planning a trip there. Here’s some pics.

Sorry for the lack of ski pictures. I guess I was too busy taking it all in. Now where should I go next?

Holiday skiing

It snowed over 2 meters over the holidays. Here’s a little video Andre put together from our Christmas break. Enjoy!

More snow on the way too. It’s going to be a good weekend in Whistler :)

Happy New Year everyone!

Happy winter!

Finally, it’s winter again. Check out the Whistler opening day videos from Doglotion

Homeward bound

Time to pack up and head home to Squamish. We’ve been so lucky with snow on this trip and I can’t wait to come back and explore even more areas in the Alps. See you soon Vancouver! I hear it’s snowing in Whistler. Videos and pictures from our trip will be on Doglotion.com soon.

La Grave

We’re in la Grave and it’s beautiful. Guess I’m a little behind on this, lack of internet and lots of skiing have been holding me back. We met up with a few other Whistler-ites here and have been enjoying skiing with Andre’s local friends Lars and Eda. Home in a week? Too soon, maybe we’ll try to extend our trip…..hmmmmm.

catching up

I’m trying to play catch up on blog posts, the skiing’s been so good so I haven’t taken much time to update this. We’ve been skiing every day and the snow has been amazing, so light and so fun. It started snowing a couple of days ago and a big fog rolled in.

Andre and I were on our own for the day and we couldn’t find any of the lines we had gone to with Jonny, we could barely follow the groomer. We eventually found a tree run below the fog that we had done the day before and played around in there all day. It’s been snowing! Can’t wait for it to clear and get back out to the Alpine! Here’s some pictures from our playtime in the trees. Photos by Andre Charland.
